Journalist thinks Ange Postecoglou is being treated unfairly by the media

0

The Telegraph’s Matt Law launches a passionate defence of Ange Postecoglou after the Tottenham head coach came in for widespread criticism as his side fell to their tenth defeat of the Premier League season on Saturday.

Ange Postecoglou is still confident Spurs will turn things around

Spurs suffered yet another home loss in their latest clash against Newcastle, which means that the club have now lost half of their league games this season.

The result left Tottenham firmly rooted to the bottom half of the table but Postecoglou insisted in his post-match press conference that he saw plenty of positives in the performance and that his side deserved to win the game.

He was bullish in asserting that he remains confident that it is only a matter of time before Spurs turn their form around and move up the table.

Matt Law says Ange Postecoglou’s tactics are not at fault

Ange Postecoglou has attracted plenty of criticism for those comments and an increasing number of pundits are now suggesting that he is now a dead man walking.

However, Matt Law has defended the Tottenham head coach on social media, insisting that Spurs’ struggles are down to the number of injuries that they currently have rather than down to Ange’s methods.

He pointed to the example of how Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side suffered last season when they were dealing with a similar injury crisis.

Law wrote: ‘Tottenham have not lost 10 games because Ange P is ‘delusional’. They’ve lost 10 games because they’ve got a tonne of injuries and the squad can’t cope. Just as Newcastle had lost 9 games this time last season for the same reason. Nobody called Eddie H ‘delusional’ or took the piss out of him.’

A defeat on Wednesday will change the situation

One of the reasons that Postecoglou is getting a long rope is due to the fact that Spurs are still going strong in the cup competitions.

This season will be viewed as a success by the Tottenham hierarchy if the club end it with silverware, even if they finish a long way away from the top four spots.

Ange Postecoglou’s predicament will thus turn a lot bleaker if Spurs suffer a comprehensive defeat against Liverpool on Wednesday as that would effectively knock them out of the Carabao Cup.
