Centre urges states, UTs to enforce Section 479 of BNSS for undertrial prisoners' relief

The Central government has urged all states and Union Territories to implement Section 479 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) to provide relief to undertrial prisoners. Provisions include releasing those who have served a substantial portion of their sentence on bail or bond, aiming to mitigate long detentions.
