Brenton Wood, 'Gimme Little Sign' singer, passes away at 83
NEW YORK (PIX11) – Popular soul singer and songwriter Brenton Wood passed away Friday evening, a representative for the signer confirmed to PIX11 News.
He is best known for his top-ten hit “Gimme Little Sign” and popular song “The Oogum Boogum Song.” These timeless tunes have topped the charts and been featured in countless movies and commercials.
Wood, born Alfred Jesse Smith, passed away Friday of natural causes at home, surrounded by friends and family, a spokesperson confirmed.
His manager and best friend, Manny Gallegos, shared a touching moment they had just before the singer passed. They were playing piano and singing songs, and Brenton Wood had a message for all his fans. He said, “Catch you on the rebound,” a reference to one of his songs of the same name.
The singer was 83, and Gallegos confirmed this to Variety.
