'Nobody wants to see this!' Trump vents fury over flags being half-staff for inauguration
President-elect Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Friday to complain that the American flag will be flown at half-staff for his inauguration due to the period of mourning for the recently deceased former President Jimmy Carter.
In the immediate aftermath of Carter's passing, Trump actually surprised some observers — and annoyed his own supporters — with a heartfelt tribute to the 100-year-old former president, who was controversial in his day but became beloved in his later years for his devotion to charitable causes around the world.
"Those of us who have been fortunate to have served as President understand this is a very exclusive club, and only we can relate to the enormous responsibility of leading the Greatest Nation in History," he wrote.
Now, however, he appears annoyed that the tributes to him could loom over his own re-entry into office.

"The Democrats are all 'giddy' about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at 'half mast' during my Inauguration," wrote Trump. "They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves. Look at what they’ve done to our once GREAT America over the past four years - It’s a total mess!"
"In any event, because of the death of President Jimmy Carter, the Flag may, for the first time ever during an Inauguration of a future President, be at half mast," he continued. "Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it. Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made clear this afternoon that the flag will not be removed from half-staff during the inauguration just to satisfy Trump's desires.
