Jack Nicholson’s Daughter Posts Rare Photo With Reclusive Star

0

Infamously reclusive star Jack Nicholson was captured in a rare family photo posted by his daughter, Lorraine Nicholson, to celebrate the New Year.

On Jan. 2, Nicholson, 34, posted a carousel of pictures from her holiday celebrations. In one photo, she can be seen embracing the 87-year-old star of The Departed, who hasn’t appeared on screen since his supporting role in the 2010 comedy How Do You Know?. Though he’s been seen intermittently at Los Angeles Lakers games and the Academy Awards, Nicholson has kept relatively a low profile in the last 14 years.

The sweet picture shows Lorraine embracing her father as they sit around a table in the study of their family home, which is opulently adorned with books, trophies, and oil paintings, as well as a conspicuously corded telephone. The Easy Rider actor looks dressed for the holiday in a neatly pressed bowling shirt, his salt-and-pepper hair combed back and his beard neatly trimmed.

Lorraine is an actor in her own right, having made her debut at age 13 opposite her dad and Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give (2003). She’s gone on to roles in the Adam Sandler vehicle Click (2006), Bobcat Goldthwait’s World’s Greatest Dad (2009), and the Bethany Hamilton biopic Soul Surfer (2011). Alongside her father-daughter pic, Lorraine also posted several sibling snaps featuring her brother, 32-year-old Raymond Nicholson, who is also an up-and-coming actor. He had a memorable role in last year’s Smile 2, playing the heroine’s gurning, deceased boyfriend.

Nicholson told Vanity Fair in 2013 that he had retired from “hit[ting] on” women rather than acting. On a 2023 episode of WTF with Marc Maron, Nicholson’s friend, Lou Adler, remarked that the actor had been offered many projects over the years, but declined each of them. “A friend of mine wanted to put him in a movie,” Maron claimed, “and he had a conversation with him. But Jack says, ‘I don’t want to do it.’ He goes, ‘You know what I did today? I sat under a tree and I read a book.’”

“That sounds like Jack,” Adler responded. “He’s doing whatever he really wants to do. He wants to be quiet. He wants to eat what he wants. He wants to live the life he wants.”
