FBI raids Los Angeles hotel over Oakland police chase through high-prostitution area

0

LOS ANGELES — After successfully leading Oakland police on a chase through town, a San Francisco resident was arrested by the FBI after a raid on a Los Angeles County hotel, court records show.

Now the 36-year-old man is back in the Bay Area, being held at Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $240,000 bail, records show. He faces two gun possession charges as well as two felony counts of leading police on two different chases in August, records show.

The investigation started when police in Oakland acquired video surveillance footage from a gas station of the man possessing a firearm in his vehicle during a brief stop at the business. He has seven prior convictions across California and is barred from possessing guns, according to court records.

When Oakland officers spotted the man in an area known for prostitution, they attempted to pull him over and pursued him until he got on a nearby freeway going the wrong way, according to court records. After that chase, the man allegedly fled to Gardena, where the FBI tracked him down.

He was arrested Dec. 17, during an FBI-led raid on a hotel room in Los Angeles County, where authorities seized a firearm and his cellphone, according to court records. They later tracked down his Instagram account, @sharkmoneymode, and found several videos of him in the same general area where the police chase took place, according to authorities.

His next court date has been set for Jan. 7.
