Bears Apparently Have Hidden Agenda For Thomas Brown Head Coach Interview

Plenty of names are lining up to interview for the Chicago Bears head coaching job. That isn’t surprising. Despite their disappointing record, this feels like a team that is a few adjustments away from being a winner. They have a talented young quarterback in Caleb Williams. Their defense is good, if somewhat flawed. They have actual firepower at the offensive skill positions. Retool the offensive line and provide actual coaching? You’re cooking with gas. Yet one name involved has some fans confused: Thomas Brown.

Any interest in the current interim head coach went out the window after the Bears were throttled in his first two games. That isn’t entirely fair, but most believe it was a clear sign this team needs a total staff reset. If the Bears feel that way, why bother interviewing Brown at all? It turns out there may be an ulterior motive involved. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune revealed it during a segment on 670 The Score.

It boils down to GM Ryan Poles and team president Kevin Warren getting Brown’s thoughts on the locker room situation.

Thomas Brown can’t fix the Bears, but he can help the next guy do it.

Arming Poles and Warren with that kind of information is so important. This means that they will have a better understanding of the type of head coach they need to address the problems. This can be a hidden advantage to firing a head coach midseason. It allows the interim coach to get a feel for where the team is, something outside candidates wouldn’t have. He can then present his findings to the team brass about what needs to change. The Bears have never operated with that kind of information before.

As Biggs said, Thomas Brown is a direct guy. He isn’t afraid to speak the truth. It is one of the reasons players love him. No bullshit. That is what the Bears need right now. They need somebody to say straight to their faces what is wrong without sugarcoating it. Poles and Warren seem at least sensible enough to listen without getting offended. From there, what they do with the information is up to them.
