Store employees help stop scam
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- The Berkshire County Sheriff's Office is issuing a warning about an ongoing scam.
Investigators said a woman was contacted by someone who falsely claimed she missed jury duty. The caller told her she needed to pay a fine of $2,000 or a warrant would be issued for her arrest.
She was instructed to go a store and buy a Quick Pay card. Police said store employees stopped her from doing it because the card is commonly used in scams.
Anyone who receives a similar phone call should hang up and report it to police.
