Golden Globes: Viola Davis, Ted Danson to be honored by Meryl Streep, Mary Steenburgen

On Friday, Jan. 3, the Golden Globes will host a special dinner at the Beverly Hilton honoring the Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient, Viola Davis, and the Carol Burnett Award recipient, Ted Danson. Gold Derby has learned that Meryl Streep will present to Davis, while Mary Steenburgen, Danson’s wife, will present to him. Other celebrities expected to be in attendance include Carol Burnett and Jane Fonda.

The Cecil B. DeMille Award was first created in 1952 and honors film artisans, while the Carol Burnett Award, which celebrates television stars, was first doled out in 2019. Looking ahead to Sunday night’s main ceremony, both Davis and Danson will present an award on CBS’s broadcast of the 82nd Golden Globes.

Move Over, Martha. With Love, Meghan is coming soon

Meghan Markle returns to the spotlight in Netflix’s new lifestyle series. As highlighted in the newly released trailer, With Love, Meghan will feature the Duchess of Sussex blending practical how-to’s and candid conversation, from the kitchen to the garden and beyond.

Guests for the eight-episode series include Roy Choi, Mindy Kaling, and Alice Waters, with additional acclaimed chefs and special friends. With Love, Meghan premieres Jan. 15 on Netflix.

Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” tops Spotify’s most-streamed songs of 2024

Billie Eilish‘s pop song “Birds of a Feather” may have peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 1oo, but the second single from Hit Me Hard and Soft topped Spotify’s year-end chart with 1.775 billion streams. Co-written with her brother Finneas, “Birds of a Feather” has been nominated for three Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. Sabrina Carpenter‘s smash, “Espresso,” is second in Spotify’s final tally, closing out the year with 1.774 billion streams.

Wayne Osmond, original member of The Osmonds, dead at 73

Wayne Osmond, who sang baritone for the pop group The Osmonds, has died at age 73. His brother, Merrill Osmond, confirmed the singer died Wednesday night after suffering a “massive stroke.” Born August 28, 1951, Melvin Wayne Osmond was the fourth of nine kids. He began singing with his older brother Alan and younger brothers Merrill and Jay in a barbershop quartet that performed for their Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints congregation in Utah. Younger brothers Donny and Jimmy soon joined the group, rising to fame in the 1970s with their hit “One Bad Apple.”

Wayne’s siblings, Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond, went on to even greater success, performing together on their 1970s ABC variety show, Donny & Marie. Wayne is the first of the nine Osmond siblings to die. He is survived by his wife, Kathlyn, and five children.

President Viola Davis gets a premiere date from Prime Video

Prime Video has announced the April 10 premiere date for the upcoming film G20, an action-thriller starring Oscar winner Viola Davis. Directed by Patricia RiggenG20 follows U.S. President Danielle Sutton (Davis), who becomes the No. 1 target when the G20 summit comes under siege. After evading capture by the attackers, she must outsmart the enemy to protect her family, defend her country and safeguard world leaders. The film will be available to stream in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The Recruit releases Season 2 trailer

Season 2 of The Recruit finds CIA Lawyer, Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo), pulled into a life-threatening espionage situation in South Korea, only to realize that the bigger threat just might be coming from inside the Agency.

Follow Hendricks in this new trailer as he realizes what’s at stake this season to the punky tune of Green Day’s “American Idiot” — with a Korean twist! The Netflix thriller returns Jan. 30.
