30-foot sailboat sinks in the Hudson River

BETHLEHEM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A 30-foot sailboat sank in the Hudson River on Monday, per the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). It happened near the Henry Hudson Boat Launch in Bethlehem.

The DEC said that while those who responded to the scene observed the sailboat submerged in water, they did not observe evidence of petroleum released into the environment. A State Police Dive Team responded on Tuesday with the DEC's Division of Law Enforcement to find information about the boat's owner or owners.

State Police said the sailboat is securely anchored and outside the river's navigation channel. The DEC reported no evidence of the situation impacting the environment or public health.

The DEC is continuing to monitor the situation. The U.S. Coast Guard was also notified and is investigating the incident.
