New year means major changes to NYPD leadership

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- At the New Year's celebration in Times Square, former NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell was sworn into his new role, Chief of Department.

He's taking over for Jeffrey Maddrey, who abruptly resigned amid sexual misconduct allegations.

It's one of many NYPD shakeups Commissioner Jessica Tisch says will drive down crime and improve internal integrity.
