Skulls are two things: first, physically they are human skulls that can be picked up in a number of hidden locations throughout the campaign; second, they are easter eggs that add special gameplay modifiers.Traditionally, most of Halo 2's Legendary Skulls can only be found on Legendary, although there are a few exceptions. In the original Halo 2 their hidden gameplay modifiers would instantly take effect and could not be turned off until the game is turned off. In Halo 2 Anniversary the skulls merely grant achievements.
