Sports briefs: San Domenico closes out Bambauer with a win
Kris Jakstas lit up the scoreboard with 20 points as the San Domenico boys basketball team earned a 65-59 victory over Central Catholic to earn 11th place Monday on the final day of the Bambauer Classic, hosted by Marin Catholic.
Jakstas hit three of the hot-shooting Panthers’ 13 baskets from beyond the arc. Omar Williams finished with 15 points on five 3-pointers, and Ika Jokahdze added 10 points for San Domenico (8-3).
Jakstas hit a long jumper at the buzzer to end the third quarter with the Panthers leading by 10 points. Williams popped up for a 3-pointer to start the fourth quarter with a 53-40 San Domenico lead.
All-tournament player Gavin Early tallied nine points for San Domenico, which is scheduled to host South Fork on Jan. 3.
- Semetri Carr scored 38 points as Redwood scored an impressive 59-46 victory over Arizona’s Prescott High on Monday to claim the consolation championship in the Gold Division of The Damien Classic in La Verne. Carr, who was an all-tournament selection, also had nine rebounds and had three assists. Tyler White had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Giants (6-4).
- Heath French scored a team-high 16 points as Branson wrapped up play in the Diamond Bracket at the Damien Classic with a 58-54 loss to Washington of Los Angeles. Chase Robertson added 13 points and NJ Gray scored 12 for the Bulls (7-7).
- James Butler hit a pair of 3-pointers in the final minute to lift Archie Williams past Campolindo, 66-63, on Monday to claim third place at the Bambauer Classic, hosted by Marin Catholic. Butler nailed a shot from behind the arc to tie the game at 63 points each with 54 seconds left, then hit the game-winner with 2.6 seconds remaining. The Falcons (8-4) are scheduled to host Urban on Saturday.
Girls basketball
Avery Myerberg scored 25 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, and dished out five assists to lead Branson to a 53-48 win against James Logan at the West Coast Jamboree on Monday.
Paige Macy also posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulls (7-5) Kate Spaulding added six points. Myerberg was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 71 points across three games.
- Stanford-bound Carly Amborn scored 38 points as San Domenico lost a 61-60 heartbreaker against Ferndale to take fourth place in their division at the West Coast Jamboree on Monday. The Panthers, still without point guard Tosia Konczak, dressed just eight players and trailed by as many as 18 points in the second quarter after Ferndale scored 29 points in the first 8 minutes. Amahji Cook scored 12 points for San Domenico (4-9) while Sanne Kostecki scored eight.
- Marin Academy won its first two games in the Topaz Division at the West Coast Jamboree, posting a 64-7 win against Elite and a 64-30 win against Ygnacio Valley over the weekend. MA (7-4) advanced to Monday’s title game but fell 47-36 against Vintage. Amelia Thomas scored 22, 20, and 15 points in the three games and made the all-tournament team along with Alexia Schwaegler and Penelope Lee.
- Tam (6-6) fell in its last game at the West Coast Jamboree, 50-27 against Pleasant Grove on Monday.
- Redwood (6-6) went 1-2 at the West Coast Jamboree following a 67-50 win against Bishop Manogue on Monday.
- Terra Linda (3-6) lost to Aragon, 49-27, on the final day of the Newark Memorial tournament. The Trojans are scheduled to host Alhambra on Friday.
