AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Pets and their owners received the resources they needed over the weekend during the annual end-of-year food distribution hosted by Austin Pets Alive!, according to an APA! news release.

The event was held at McCormick Middle School in Buda. APA! collaborated with the Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) and Hays County Pet Resource Center (Hays PRC) to help distribute those supplies to 233 dogs and 144 cats, the release said. Some of those supplies included resource guide flyers with information about spay and neuter clinics as well as behavior support.

According to APA!, the Hays PRC provided food for more than 600 families and more than 1,500 pets during the 2024 year between four distribution events. Over the weekend, more than 300 pets were served.

"The attendance at these events showcases the need for strong community programs and partnerships with human services organizations within Hays County,” said Lee Ann Shenefiel, Hays County Pet Resource Center's director and executive advisor, in the release. “We want to continue providing these opportunities to ensure both people and pets have access to resources to keep their pets out of the shelter system.”
