No. 5 Longhorns clobber UTRGV 94-35, face No. 9 Sooners in SEC opener
AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 5 Texas held UT Rio Grande Valley to single-digit point totals in three of four quarters and forced 37 turnovers to easily win 94-35 in NCAA women's basketball action Sunday at Moody Center.
Kyla Oldacre had a near-perfect night for the Longhorns with 21 points in 24 minutes, shooting 6-for-6 from the field and 9-for-10 from the foul line. She added seven rebounds to help Texas outrebound the Vaqueros 44-29. Madison Booker scored 14 points with seven rebounds and seven assists while Taylor Jones scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Texas.
The Longhorns scored 47 points off UTRGV turnovers and had 52 points in the paint with 21 steals and 18 assists. All 10 players who logged minutes scored for Texas. Rori Harmon, Jordan Lee and Bryanna Preston all chipped in nine points each and Shay Holle had seven.
Texas shot 50% from the field, 35-for-70, while the Vaqueros made 13 of 48 attempts. The Longhorns lead 25-4 after the first quarter and 46-22 at halftime. Texas outscored UTRGV 48-13 in the second half, holding the Vaqueros to four points in the third and nine in the fourth.
Texas (13-1) kicks off its first Southeastern Conference schedule against No. 9 Oklahoma at 8 p.m. Thursday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
