COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Northwest Columbus residents got an early wake up call Saturday morning as a surprise tornado siren sound was heard throughout the area.

A police dispatcher said that Columbus, Dublin, and Worthington police went to Centennial High School on Bethel Road to investigate a loud siren sound at around 6:30 a.m. The sound was originating from near the press box at the school's football stadium and stopped just before 7 a.m., per a dispatcher.

Franklin County Emergency Management confirmed it was a tornado siren that experienced an equipment malfunction and went off accidentally. Service personnel is expected to repair the siren Monday morning.
