Three Red Sox Players Make Changes For 2025 MLB Season

A trio of Red Sox players will go through a jersey cosmetic change next season.

Ceddanne Rafaela wore No. 43 through his entire Boston career, but the center fielder and infielder will do No. 3 in 2025, according to the Red Sox team roster page. The jersey number previously was worn by Reese McGuire.

David Hamilton will trade in his No. 70 for No. 17. Tyler O’Neill wore the jersey number in 2024. And Nick Sogard will wear No. 20 after donning No. 72 in 2024. The last player to wear No. 20 was Yu Chang in 2023.

The reported Walker Buehler signing was not made official, so fans will have to wait and see which jersey number the former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher chooses when he officially joins the Red Sox. No. 21 is not retired, but a Boston player has not worn the jersey number since Roger Clemens in 1996.
