Peter Sarsgaard Reveals Secret to Marriage With Maggie Gyllenhaal

Peter Sarsgaard is opening up about his marriage!

The 53-year-old September 5 actor has been married to Maggie Gyllenhaal for 15 years, and they have two daughters together.

Peter recently opened up about being married to another actor and the secret to their long-lasting marriage.

“We take turns in terms of our work,” he told People. “I think that’s one of the things that you just sort of have to do is let someone have their dance and then you take your dance. There is great value in that.”

“I think at one point I used to think that I would work more if I could,” Peter added. “But I think that’s wrong. I think I would’ve done a lot more things that I was not proud of. So when I say yes to do something, it’s some type of sacrifice for me. Not a big one. Everyone else has got bigger sacrifices in the world, but just talking artistically — I can’t work constantly. I have a whole other life. I have a family.”

Nowadays, he’s more meticulous about the projects he takes on and admits he thinks it would be harder to be married to someone who wasn’t in the same profession as he is.

“I pick and choose and I think it makes it so that I take meetings seriously,” Peter shared. “But I don’t know if I have couple advice. I think every couple is as unique as every person. I think it would be a lot more difficult to be married to someone who had a more consistent type of employment in one place.”

In fact, Peter and Maggie recently worked together on the upcoming mvie The Bride, which she wrote, directed and produced. Her brother Jake Gyllenhaal is also in the film!

“This is a huge movie. She was leading a set of hundreds of people,” Peter said of Maggie. “It’s my wife up there, it’s my wife darting out of the tent and come on over and talking to this actor and darting back in. She’s such a great leader and she has such a great mind.”
