Topeka liquor store open for last-minute shoppers

TOPEKA (KSNT) - While people are getting their last-minute shopping in, one west Topeka liquor store is getting ready for its final rush before Christmas.

Christmas Eve is one of the busiest days for liquor stores. Fleming Place Wine & Spirits has seen its own holiday rush this year. Owner Bryan McDonald told 27 News some big-ticket items are collectable bourbons, as well as airport-size shooters for games and even stocking stuffers.

Despite Christmas day falling in the middle of the week, McDonald said business hasn't skipped a beat.

"It's been just as busy, if not more busy than last year," McDonald said. "You know, ever since we opened the doors today, it's been like this all day. And then, you know, coming up to the week of Christmas day is pretty busy. It's different... the Wednesday Christmas. So it's been fun."

According to Kansas law, liquor stores across the state cannot be open on Christmas Day. McDonald said his store will be open until 8 p.m. Christmas Eve for any crunch-time shopping.
