Spurs youngster has gone off the boil

Alejo Veliz would have been hoping to impress on loan at Espanyol this season and catch Ange Postecoglou‘s eye after his disastrous loan spell at Sevilla last season.

The striker did make an impressive start to his spell in Catalonia, scoring an important match-winner back in August and netting a hattrick in the Copa del Rey in October.

However, the Argentine has since struggled for form and now finds himself out of the club’s starting eleven, having made just three appearances since the start of last month.

Alejo Veliz could return to Tottenham

La Grada Radio now reports that Espanyol could be forced to cut the 21-year-old’s loan spell at the club short.

The report explains that the La Liga side want to improve their squad next summer, but their current economic predicament means they will have to lower their wage bill before strengthening.

They could thus decide to send Veliz back to Tottenham, with the youngster said to be ‘willing to accept an early exit’ in the upcoming transfer window.

Where does Veliz go from here?

While Veliz still has age on his side, it will be concerning to Tottenham that he has failed to have any sort of impact in two spells in Spain.

If the former Rosaria Central striker does return to Spurs in January, the North London club could potentially consider sending him on loan to the Championship so that the youngster can get game time under his belt and build some confidence.
