The Croc from 'Crocodile Dundee' Has Died at 90

0

Though Crocodile Dundee himself, Paul Hogan, is very much alive and thriving at 85, his co-star in Crocodile Dundee (1986), a crocodile named Burt, has sadly passed away.

According to Deadline, an Australian reptile park called Crocosaurus Cove has shared the news with the world that Burt the Crocodile has died. "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Burt, the iconic Saltwater crocodile, and star of the Australian classic Crocodile Dundee...Burt passed away peacefully over the weekend, estimated to be over 90 years old, marking the end of an incredible era."

Saltwater crocodiles are generally long-lived, with most surviving well into their 70s. But, at 90, Burt was exceptionally old for his species. Thank God all that stardom didn't go to his head.

Back in 1986, the film Crocodile Dundee gave the world a kind of offbeat rom-com when a big-city reporter named Sue (Linda Kozlowski) tries wrangle a story about a crocodile hunter known as Michael J. Dundee (Hogan) in Australia. The result is a cooky romance that would probably work on the Hallmark channel today but was likely one of your mom's favorite movies in the '80s or '90s.

Obviously, a movie about a crocodile hunter would be nothing without actual crocodiles in it, meaning that Burt's contribution is, clearly, just as meaningful as Paul Hogan's. But may be gone, but his memory will live on, forever.

Crocodile Dundee is streaming on Pluto TV and Paramount+.
