'Porch pirates': Sen. Wyden calls out Donald Trump, Elon Musk over pharmacy changes
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Senator Ron Wyden is calling out Republican lawmakers and President-elect Donald Trump over changes at pharmacies that he says will hurt shoppers and independent stores.
Wyden, who stopped by the KOIN 6 studio on Monday, talked about a bill killed by Republican lawmakers, allegedly directed by Elon Musk and Trump, that would have fixed abuses by pharmacy benefit managers.
"We thought it was a done deal. The President-elect talked to everybody who was willing to listen (saying) 'we're gonna get them, this is the time.' And then suddenly, he and Elon Musk backed away. I think it's a missed opportunity. Everybody always talks a big game about pharmaceutical prices. This is something that will help. We're gonna come back in January," Wyden said.
Wyden says when the new session picks up in the new year, allies of the bill will continue to sponsor it to get it passed in some form.
The full interview can be seen in the video player above.
Wyden also stopped by Brooklyn Pharmacy to take aim at Trump and Musk.
"It's not a pretty picture when a couple of porch pirates side with the pharmaceutical companies and suck a whole lot of money out of a system that hurts this community," he said.
