McDonald’s is making a big change to menus this week and milkshake fans will be devastated

MCDONALD’S is making a big change to menus this week and milkshake fans will be devastated.

The home of the Golden Arches stunned customers when it said the Grimace Shake would return to menus this December.

The shake is purple and tastes like blueberries

The milkshake – which is inspired by the chain’s purple mascot – landed in UK restaurants for the first time in August, but was only around for a week.

It was already a fan favourite in the United States and went viral when it was launched across the pond.

The sweet treat is purple and features a blueberry-flavoured syrup blended with a creamy milkshake base.

It is also the first time McDonald’s has mixed things up with its flavours – which are typically just strawberry, chocolate and vanilla.

It is currently available to buy across McDonald’s 1,450 stores this winter, and the drink has been raved about by customers.

But customers who are keen to get their hands on a shake will need to act quickly.

That’s because Maccies is pulling the product from the menu on December 24, giving fans just one day to get their hands on the drink.

A medium Grimace Shake will set you back £2.69 – or £2.99 if you want to upgrade to a large.

This is compared to the usual cost for a regular medium McDonalds milkshake which is £1.99 or £2.19 for a large.

However, bear in mind that prices can vary depending on which McDonald’s store you are visiting.

McDonald’s has treated fans to a number of new menu items over the past few months.

Last month it launched a new Chilli Double Cheeseburger, which landed on its saver menu for £2.49.

It features two 100% British and Irish beef patties, two slices of cheese, onions, jalapenos, pickles and spicy relish in a toasted bun.

Meanwhile, McDonald’s also launched its brand new Christmas menu, which featured a never-before-seen Terry’s Chocolate Orange Pie.

What else is on the new McDonald’s menu?

McDonald’s regularly updates its menu, usually every six weeks.

The new items and prices for the menu shake-up from January 6 are:

  • New katsu crispy or grilled wrap – £3.49 single item, £5.29 with a meal, and £1.99 on Wednesday
  • new Milkyway McFlurry – £2.19
  • new BBQ ranch stack burger – £5.19 single item, £6.99 with a meal
  • McCrispy BBQ smokehouse – £5.79 single item, £7.49 with a meal
  • mozzarella dippers – £2.39

The calories for the items are yet to be revealed.

The BBQ ranch stack burger comes with two 100% beef patties topped with cheese made with Emmental, lettuce, bacon, crispy onions, creamy ranch and sweet BBQ sauce, in a glazed sesame seed bun.

The Milkyway McFlurry combines soft serve dairy ice cream swirled with milk chocolate stars and malt flavoured pieces topped with chocolate sauce.

The BBQ smokehouse McCrispy is a returning item, after last being on menus in September when it was £5.59 or £7.49 as part of a meal.

The burger is made up of chicken breast fillet in a crispy, crunchy coating with a smoky BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, red onion, lettuce, all in a sourdough style sesame topped bun.

Meanwhile, the mozzarella dippers are also back on menus from next month after last being available in October.

The dippers consist of mozzarella and emmental cheese with a smoky caramelised onion-flavoured breadcrumb coating.

Of course, what goes on must come off and a number of current menu items will be axed in January.

The Terry’s Chocolate Orange Pie, selling for £1.99, will be ditched, while the cheesy McCrispy, from £5.99, will also be dropped.

Some returning items will also be taken off the menu, including the popular Big Tasty and Big Tasty with bacon, on sale from £7.59.
