Commuter falls into moving train that knocks him to ground and sends him spinning

Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a man tripped and was dragged by an oncoming train in London’s Blackfriars station.

Govia Thameslink released the footage, showing the moment a suited man walked precariously close to the passing train, far past the yellow line.

After stepping close to the track, the man appeared to trip slightly before falling and getting his bag caught below.

He fell and spun around before managing to get away from the platform edge as other commuters ran to help him.

It’s the latest instance as passenger trips, falls and other accidents have been on the rise in recent years on public transport.

Samantha Facey, Health Safety & Security Director at Thameslink and Great Northern, said: ‘We’re already seeing a higher volume of passengers due to the festive season, and whilst our staff on the ground are there to help, it’s important people are doing their bit to keep themselves safe.

‘We had over 150 incidents of slips, trips and falls on the network last winter and these can be extremely dangerous on the railway. Please leave plenty of time to travel so you don’t need to run for a train and always stay behind the yellow safety line to protect yourselves and other travellers.

‘Following these simple steps will help you to get home safely this Christmas.’

The man was lucky to walk away rather unscathed, but not every commuter is as lucky. Earlier this year, an investigation found two women were injured when their coats got trapped in Tube doors.

A 101-year-old woman had to be treated for serious injuries when she was dragged along the platform on the Northern line at Archway.

She was getting off the train with a companion at around 3.50pm when the door closed, trapping her jacket. She was dragged along the platform for two metres before she and her companion fell to the ground, yanking the coat free.
