New technology offers hope for US egg industry to kill fewer chicks

WILTON, Iowa: Every year, the U.S. egg industry culls about 350 million male chicks because they can't lay eggs and lack commercial value.

Most are killed within a day of hatching, often through maceration, a process involving high-speed rotating blades. While considered humane due to its speed, the practice has drawn criticism for its brutality.

Now, a technological breakthrough offers an alternative. A
