Lions WR Jameson Williams gets last laugh on CB Tyrique Stevenson as Bears lose 34-17

0

Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams just can’t leave each other alone and got into it again Sunday in the Bears' 34-17 loss to the Lions at Soldier Field.

Williams caught a five-yard pass against Stevenson less than two minutes into the game, and Stevenson shoved him to the ground well after he went out of bounds, though wasn’t flagged for it. Williams hopped up and started pointing and yelling at Stevenson as he ran back to the field and got penalized 15 yards for taunting.

Williams got the last laugh soon after with an 82-yard touchdown catch early in the second quarter. He went up the left side against Stevenson and got by him and safety Jonathan Owens for an over-the-shoulder catch that put the Lions ahead 20-0.

Stevenson, who has had a rocky season since blowing the Hail Mary coverage against the Commanders in October, and Williams clashed last month when the teams played in Detroit. Williams made a play and went out of bounds, and Stevenson, who wasn’t in the game at the time, tripped him on the sideline.

Williams threw the ball in Stevenson’s face and drew a flag, but the NFL fined Stevenson $19,697 — the second-largest penalty for a Bears player this season.

Williams finished with five catches for a career-high 143 yards and one touchdown.

Latest on the Bears
Williams burned the Bears for a career-best 143 yards and a touchdown on five catches.
As he had the previous three weeks, the Bears’ rookie quarterback spent most of a 34-17 loss to the Lions playing from behind. There were soft coverages and no firm stakes.
