‘SNL’ Cold Open features Martin Short joining ‘Five Timers Club’ with celebrity cameos

“Saturday Night Live’s” Cold Open featured Martin Short and members of the “Five Timers Club” with several celebrity cameos for its Christmas special.

The episode opened with Tom Hanks and Paul Rudd revisiting the “Five-Timers Club,” an exclusive club for those who have hosted the show at least five times.

Short was inducted into the club and participated in a handshake with Rudd. Tina Fey welcomed Short to the club and joked about Short’s TV series “Only Murders in the Building” with fellow SNL alum Steve Martin.

Alec Baldwin joined the scene and noted he’s called upon when the show needs him to play a Republican. Scarlett Johansson entered the cold open, closing the set’s door on her husband, SNL cast member Colin Jost.

Kristen Wiig entered the scene, saying that last year, she and Short took a hot yoga class and then voted for President-elect Trump.

“Don’t tell them that!” Short said.

“It’s okay. In this club you can be completely honest,” Wiig said. “Anyone else want to try?”

Rudd jumped in saying Ant-Man’s powers “aren’t good.”

Fey shared that it’s her that’s flying the drones over New York and New Jersey.

Hanks, whose early sickness largely prompted concern in the U.S. amid the COVID-19 pandemic, said he “never had COVID.”

Johansson said she had COVID “right now” and Baldwin, a father to eight, said he has “way too many children.”

Melissa McCarthy and Emma Stone joined the scene, shortly followed by John Mulaney, who recently hosted SNL, and Jimmy Fallon.

“Thank you all for being here. This is such a special night.” Short said. “And from the bottom of my heart, I just want to say, I love most of you so much.”
