Exact date Aldi is dropping new two-limit rule on shoppers in all of its supermarkets
ALDI is enforcing a new two-limit rule across all its supermarkets from this week – but it’s not a permanent change.
The German retailer is slashing the price of its Crémant De Loire sparkling wine from December 27.
Shoppers will be able to get it for £4.99 instead of £8.99, but are limited to two bottles each.
Aldi said the cap will ensure all customers can get hold of the sparkling wine ahead of New Year’s Eve.
However, the two per person limit is only in place until December 31 – four days.
It’s not the first time Aldi has limited the amount customers can get of particular items.
The discounter, which runs over 1,000 UK stores, sparked fury in November after restricting how many Kevin the Carrot plush toys shoppers were allowed to buy.
Some customers were left outraged at being set a limit on how many they could get of the popular toys.
One wrote on Facebook: “There’s a set of three humbugs but you can only have two per person – I was so angry, as I have three kids.”
In November last year, shoppers were left baffled over a “confusing” buying limit on Kevin the Carrot toys.
Customers were only allowed to buy two of each type so everyone had the best chance of getting some.
But some shoppers were left bemused after being told they were in fact limited to two toys across the whole range.
In other news, Aldi has joined a host of other retailers in launching cheap festive veg, with prices set at 8p.
The retailer has also revealed the quietest times to visit branches and swerve the crowds ahead of Christmas.
CHANGES AT ALDI
In August, Aldi confirmed it was axing click and collect across 174 stores after launching the service just four years prior.
The £4.99 service let customers browse grocery items like canned goods and fresh produce online and choose a slot to pick up them up from the nearest branch.
Aldi launched the service at the height of the coronavirus pandemic in September 2020 and by 2021 it was offered across more than 200 stores.
But it started axing the service from dozens of branches, including 12 in July 2023 saying it had only set up the feature on a trial basis.
Aldi is also expanding its number of operational stores across the UK as well, with a number opening this month.
The supermarket has said it wants to invest £800million into its store network and eventually run 1,500 stores across the UK.
Just last week, it revealed the locations of 30 new stores which will open next year as part of growth plans.
