'Future generations deserve better': MAGA lawmaker fires warning shot at GOP

0

A MAGA Republican was none too pleased with his party on Friday night and accused the GOP-led House — which passed a temporary funding bill Friday evening following a week of chaotic negotiations — of shirking its responsibility to "bring down spending."

Rep. Andy Harris, Maryland's only Republican in Congress, backed Louisiana’s Mike Johnson for House speaker last year, but fired a warning shot after the House passed a stopgap spending bill to avert a holiday shutdown.

"Since President Trump's historic election to bring down spending, deficits, and inflation, the 'Republican'-led House has INITIATED $300 billion in unpaid for new spending, without even ATTEMPTING offsets to prevent skyrocketing the deficit and debt."

Harris declared that "future generations deserve better."

"I am now undecided on what House leadership should look like in the 119th Congress," he concluded.

Republicans have touted the bill as providing" much-needed relief to Americans struggling to recover from natural disasters." That includes $110 billion in disaster assistance for relief efforts in states affected by major hurricanes and sends money to rural communities, particularly farmers and ranchers, facing tough economic circumstances.

The finished bill now heads to the Senate and will likely avert a government shutdown over Christmas. It has been pared down compared with what was previously agreed upon, with provisions such as pediatric cancer funding stripped out.

The House did not include Trump's demand for a massive debt ceiling hike in the bill, setting up a showdown over that issue.
