- 10 FUN FACTS ABOUT CHACE
- 1. During the music video shoot of my latest single “Tunnel Vision,” Tim Cook actually came to the set and surprised the entire crew. He loved the set design and we did a brief interview discussing Apple workflow and the fragility of creative inspiration.
- 2. One of the actors from the music video shoot recognized an Easter egg I hid in the set design, there’s a prop with the station’s name “Hoyt-Schermerhorn” on it, which was where Michael Jackson shot the music video of “Bad.” Before we even started blocking the scene the actor immediately said to me: “Hey I used to live right next to this station!”
- 3. The reason I wore the red T-shirt in the music video was because of a dear friend at Apple: Arjan Timmermans. He told me he only has one outfit choice, a red suit, a grey shirt, a black tie, and a pair of black pants. That’s what he’s been wearing exclusively for over a decade. So I also went red because I wanted to gave Arjan an homage for supporting my music from the beginning of my career.
- 4. I’ve done many shows together with my father’s band when I was 4 years old, I was the drummer.
- 5. I was the director of music club back in Middle & High school, we played NU-Metal all the time.
- 6. I’ve never studied abroad, the way I learned speaking fluent English was by watching The Big Bang Theory and Friends.
- 7. An online friend from back when I was doing a-cappella cover songs gave me the artist name Chace, and it’s been 12 years since then, never thought of changing it.
- 8. The first time I touched a professional DJ deck was when I got booked for my first DJ show, until then I’ve only messed around with virtually DJing softwares.
- 9. I had a writer’s block and I started to collect Michael Jackson’s CDs and vinyls, trying to take my mind off of making the album. I went a bit too far and got to know the biggest MJ collector in China, he saw my collection and asked me: “Maybe you’re doing all this to compensate something that’s missing in your music?” After that I knew exactly what sound I should go for with the album.
- 10. The upcoming album is an exploration of 80’s pop music, which was the genre of music my father’s band played, on top of that, the work of Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson enhanced the idea too.
