The supermarket chain with 13 branches that sells surplus items from brands like McDonald’s and M&S with up to 60% off

A LITTLE-KNOWN supermarket chain with just 13 stores is selling surplus items from brands including McDonald’s at amazing prices.

Company Shop sells products from retailers like Marks & Spencer and Asda for as much as 60% off their retail price – but there’s a catch.

Unlike other supermarkets, not everyone can purchase products from the warehouse stores, as you need to be a member and meet certain criteria.

But, for those who do qualify for membership, the bargains up for grabs can be huge and you can pick up products that would not be available at regular supermarkets.

For example, TikTok channel New in the High Street shared a video of McDonald’s favourites stocked up in the surplus supermarket.

The items up for grabs included large bags of frozen hash browns, cheesy bites and pies that would usually be sold in Maccies stores.

And the prices were far cheaper than you’d find in the fast food chain’s outlets, too, with a 1kg bag of cheesy bites being sold for £5, a 1kg bag of cheese melt dippers being sold for £2 and a 1.5kg bag of hash browns being sold for £2.50.

The store was also selling McDonald’s hot cross bun pies.

The items stocked at Company Shop outlets will vary, as the company receives surplus goods from retailers that could otherwise go to waste – and these won’t always be the same.

There are several reasons companies might donate food including packaging perfections, excess stock, seasonal lines or trials that have come to an end or missed or returned deliveries.

Company Shop pays companies for these goods and then sells them on to its members.

To become a member you must:

  • Work for the NHS or private healthcare providers
  • Work the police
  • Work for the fire service
  • Work in the prison services
  • Work in the British Armed Forces
  • Be employed by or volunteer for a registered charity
  • Work for a support service including HM Coastguard, the RNLI or Mountain Rescue.
  • Work in fast moving consumer goods manufacture or logistics
  • Receive means-tested benefits

While the conditions of membership are strict, qualifying members can share their membership with up to two others.

So, if you qualify you can share your fortune with your nearest and dearest.

While discounts will vary, the company’s website says members will typically get around 50% off products.

Company Shop is not the only shop to require shoppers to be members.

Warehouse chain Costco sells branded items in bulk for cheaper than you’d typically pay at the supermarket, as well as items under its own brand, Kirkland.

The American membership-based retailer sells a huge range of discounted products including food, furniture, electrical items, toys, homeware and more.

To be eligible for membership, you need to have – or be retired from – a certain type of job.

This includes public sector workers such as NHS staff, police officers, teachers, and local government workers, as well as those working in banking and finance.
