Blue House
Blue House is a minimal home located in Norfolk, United Kingdom, designed by Studio 163. Originally part of a terrace known today as Prospect House, the building retained a strong local presence and offered sweeping views of nearby marshland and tidal channels, yet its layout and infrastructure no longer met the needs of its owners or their visiting family and friends. The project called for a comprehensive retrofit, preserving the original structure’s exterior shell while completely reorganizing its interior. The new design prioritizes a reorientation of key living spaces toward the coast, ensuring that views of the surrounding landscape are no longer restricted to low-set windows.
A mezzanine room now functions as both a social hub and a place for quiet reflection, allowing the interplay of natural light and panoramic vistas to shape the experience within. Though the exterior of the house appears largely unchanged, the team introduced significant updates to improve comfort and efficiency. A new air-source heat pump, internal insulation, and thoughtfully integrated building services have brought the property in line with modern standards. Throughout the three-year design and construction process, the architects worked closely with local conservation officers, specialist trades, and contractors, ensuring that each room’s interiors, finishes, and lighting were considered with care.
