Oklahoma City Fire Department reminding residents to be safe with candles

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - The Oklahoma City Fire Department is reminding residents that candles are one of the leading causes of house fires.
According to OKCFD, firefighters recently responded to a house fire near NW 58th St. and Portland Ave. The fire began in the bedroom due to a candle. Both residents were able to make it out safely before crews arrived.
OKCFD has released some safety tips to protect your home and loved ones:
- Keep candles at least 12 inches away from anything flammable.
- Use sturdy, tip-resistant candle holders.
- Never leave a lit candle unattended.
- Try flameless LED candles instead.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
