Former Spurs midfielder remains extremely underrated

Wilson Palacios arrived at Tottenham in January of 2009 after an excellent year at Wigan, with the midfielder being one of Harry Redknapp’s first signings at White Hart Lane.

He had an excellent start to his Spurs career, forming a formidable partnership with Jermaine Jenas in the middle of the park.

However, the midfielder found himself falling down the pecking order after Redknapp decided to move Luka Modric from the left to the middle, with the Croat often partnering Tom Huddlestone during the 2009-10 season as Spurs qualified for the Champions League for the first time.

He eventually left Spurs in 2011 to join Stoke City and had a spell with Miami FC in the MLS before deciding to move back to Honduras.

Wilson Palacios opens up on his time at Spurs

Palacios has now spoken about the two and a half years he spent at Tottenham, admitting that it was a thoroughly enjoyable spell. The 40-year-old confessed that he still remains on good terms with his former teammate, Luka Modric.

Palacious told Diario La Prensa (as relayed by Sport Witness): “Playing with so many stars like Luka Modric and Gareth Bale are beautiful experiences. I talk to Luka sometimes; we have a good relationship. I congratulate him.

“It is difficult for him (to visit Honduras), since he is in competition and when he is on vacation we throw it at him. He is a Monster, he takes good care of himself, he has not had any injuries, and he is a professional.”

Palacios was never the same after his family tragedy

The former Tottenham midfielder suffered a horrific personal tragedy in 2009, with his brother being murdered back in Honduras.

Until that point, he was well on his way to becoming one of the best number sixes in the Premier League, but he was never the same after that traumatic event, which appeared to have taken a big toll on him.

The midfielder also suffered more than his fair share of injury troubles over the next few years, which meant that his career did not deliver what it promised.
