King ready for Boxing Day debut

Barbados’ best boxers will enter the ring as professional boxing returns to Barbados for the first time in over a decade when the boxing card “Boxing Day” makes its debut at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on December 26.

Managing Director and lead promoter of Matchbox Promotions, Ronald “Zen Life” Als told Weekend Sport he felt the event was something Barbadians would be eager to attend as it would also provide the opportunity for local boxing enthusiasts to see returning homegrown talent.

“The idea now with this card and future cards is to make boxing a career choice in Barbados through corporate investment. We want boxers to be able to be full professionals without having to work other jobs to provide for their families,” Als pointed out.

“I thought it was important for this event to bring home Cobia Breedy and Keithland King, two fighters who never fought on home soil. In addition, Charles Cox and Jabali Breedy will all be making their professional debuts on home soil which is quite special. There will also be four bouts featuring some of the best amateurs on the island,” said Als.
