News and Notes for Friday, December 20th, 2024

Various sources continue to talk about Josh Naylor and Lane Thomas being discussed in trade talks. Jeff Passan mentioned both players as potential trade targets. Jon Morosi and other Twitter rumor-mongers connected Naylor to Seattle and to the Cubs. Ken Rosenthal threw Naylor into a list of players the Yankees might consider at first base.

The bottom line: teams are hoping free agent first baseman are going to come down on their asking prices and using the Guardians’ willingness to talk about anyone as leverage with reporters starved for news.

The Guardians aren’t going to move Naylor unless there is enough value coming back to justify the move, including talent that helps the major league roster. Could it happen? Sure. Is there any particular reason to think it will, so far? No.

A couple under-the-radar guys frequently discussed in connection to the Guardians signed yesterday - right-handed pitcher Mike Soroka with the Nationals for $9.5 million, and left-handed hitting outfielder Max Kepler for $10 million with the Phillies. I'm not upset in either case.

Apparently, the market may be heating up?

Some good news on Juan Brito and Cooper Ingle here!

A teaser trailer for the new Superman features familiar sights in Cleveland, including Progressive Field.

Finally, it would be real nice to know what streaming service I need to watch the Guardians in 2025 right about now:

You know what would be REAL nice is to know what streaming service we are going to need to watch Guardians games in 2025 so that if folks are asking for a nice Christmas gift for a Guardians fan, they can get a sub to that service. That'd be nice. And Guards Fest.
