YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- Jean Paul Broussard was sworn in as Youngsville's next police chief. Friends, loved ones, and fellow law enforcement officers of Broussard gathered at the Youngsville City Council Chambers where the ceremony took place.

Broussard defeated interim Chief of Police, Cody Louviere, in a runoff election just a week ago.

Broussard said he is honored to fill this position.

"I will not let the people in Youngsville down, they entrusted me to elect me as the next chief of police. As their Chief of Police, and I'm here to work tirelessly to make sure that gets done," Broussard said.

He said he plans to use his nearly 30 years of experience as a paramedic and former law enforcement officer. His first priority as chief of police will be to increase patrol in neighborhoods.

"We're going to increase patrol to make sure Youngsville is one of the safest cities in the state, make sure the businesses are safe, the citizens are safe, the home and vehicles are safe, the children, one of the main concerns, make sure our children are safe in the city of Youngsville," Broussard said.

As his term begins, Broussard said he is excited to serve the community of Youngsville as well as well as keeping residents safe.
