$53 million secured for new Watervliet fire station
WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- $53 million was secured to build a new fire station for the U.S. Army Watervliet Arsenal firefighters in the National Defense Authorization Act. This will help the first responders continue to provide emergency services for the Watervliet Arsenal and other Capital Region communities.
The current fire station is the only one in the area and can only provide emergency response to local communities including Watervliet, Troy, Albany, Cohoes, and Green Island. This station also does not hold enough room for storage and is not large enough for all personnel, leading to first responders having to reside in a facility without their equipment on hand.
$1.7 billion in federal funding was originally announced for the Watervliet Arsenal to upgrade the facility. This new station will facilitate the arsenal's ability to better serve the community.
