PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A Beaverton middle school was evacuated Wednesday after a bomb and shooting threat, officials said.

In a letter sent to Tumwater Middle School families, school officials shared that on Wednesday afternoon the school received an anonymous phone call saying that there were explosives in the school and that a shooter was on their way.

After consulting with safety officials, the school went into a lockdown, and Youth Services Officers from Beaverton Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff's Office arrived at the school within minutes, the letter said.

Law enforcement then decided to evacuate everyone in the school to the football field nearby before sending the students home.

According to the school, from the start of the event, it took two and a half hours for all of the students to be released.

The school was searched by explosive-detection dogs as well as a Youth Services Officers and no devices were found.

Tumwater students are returning to school today, where they can retrieve any belongings that were left behind during the evacuation.

Officials said they will also be facilitating community circles in their classes so students can express their thoughts about the event.

Anyone with information about the threats is asked to contact the police non-emergency line.
