'Describes everything he did': Legal expert shares new details in health CEO's murder
Murder suspect Luigi Mangione had a hearing scheduled for Thursday afternoon in court in New York City after waiving extradition from Pennsylvania, where he was arrested last week at a McDonalds in Altoona. The criminal complaint against him was unsealed, revealing new evidence against the 26-year-old accused killer.
"This criminal complaint on the other hand, which is basically an affidavit attested to by an agent of the government, describes everything that Mangione did here," said MSNBC's Lisa Rubin. "It has some pictures and still photography, pictures of the guns, describes the casings that were found on the scene, and then goes on to describe a notebook that was found with several handwritten pages, and describes what Mangione wrote in greater detail than anything that has been reported yet."
"He wrote on Aug. 15, 2024, how the details are finally coming together," she continued. "This is a quote: 'I'm glad in a way that I procrastinated because it's allowed me to learn more about,' and then apparently there was an acronym for UnitedHealthcare there.

"'The target is insurance' because it 'checks every box.' A couple of months later, he has another entry that says '1.5 months, this investor conference is a true windfall and most importantly, the message becomes self-evident.' Later on in that same entry dated Oct. 22, 2024, he describes an intent to 'whack' the CEO of one of the insurance companies at the investor conference. Oct. 22, 2024, that was approximately six weeks before the date of the murder of Brian Thompson."
"... The federal government here, providing some greater detail from Luigi Mangione's own alleged writings to support that not only was this a premeditated murder, but one that necessitated his moving from state to state in order to accomplish his planned objective of killing Brian Thompson at that health care investor conference on the date of the murder."
