Saeed Ajmal labels Ravichandran Ashwin as ‘greatest bowler of last decade’

New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin, the versatile Indian cricketer, has just announced his departure from international cricket. Few can challenge his legendary stature, with his staggering total of 765 wickets, making him second only to Anil Kumble in India and eleventh worldwide. Ashwin demonstrated exceptional prowess in Test matches, becoming a formidable force to reckon with, especially on home grounds. His performance internationally was equally commendable. He claimed 537 wickets in Test matches, once more standing second in line after Kumble in India’s cricket history. Ashwin wasn’t just about bowling though; his name also became synonymous with resilience. Six Test centuries go to his name, often making a difference when the team needed it the most. His achievement of 37 five-wicket hauls in Tests puts him on par with the legendary Shane Warne.

Saeed Ajmal, a erstwhile spin master from Pakistan offered enormous praise to R Ashwin, calling him the finest bowling sensation of the last decade. Ajmal expressed a reciprocal admiration on both sides and poured accolades on the Indian cricket legend, describing him as a delightful individual.

“To me, Ashwin is the greatest bowler in the last decade,” said Ajmal as quoted by ap7am.com.

Ashwin took part in a solitary match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Interestingly, he didn’t make it into Perth’s match lineup but was invited to play the later Adelaide Test, following which he was left out yet again.
