Baton Rouge $1M Mega Millions winner misses $4M by skipping $1 megaplier
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Someone in Baton Rouge woke up $1 million richer after purchasing a winning Match-5 Mega Millions ticket.
The Louisiana Lottery Corporation (LLC) confirmed the ticket was bought at Town South Food Mart, located at 1801 Staring Lane. The winning ticket matched five white ball numbers in Tuesday night’s drawing on Dec. 17 but missed the Mega Ball.
The winning numbers were 56, 66, 67, 68, and 69, with the Mega Ball number 18.
LLC explained that the ticket holder did not choose the $1 Megaplier option, which would have increased the prize to $4 million since the multiplier for that drawing was 4x.
The winner has yet to claim the prize and has 180 days from the date of the drawing to do so. The $1 million prize is subject to federal and state withholdings.
In addition to the Baton Rouge winner, another prize was claimed in Louisiana on Tuesday night. LLC reported a Match-4 + Mega Ball ticket worth $10,000, which included the Megaplier option, raising its value to $40,000. That ticket was sold in Lacombe.
The next Mega Millions drawing is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 20, with an estimated annuity jackpot prize of $825 million.
