Three men arrested in Opelousas motel drug bust, St. Landry sheriff says

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- Three men were arrested after an alleged drug transaction was disrupted Tuesday at a Motel 6 in Opelousas, according to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz announced the following arrests:

Jovonta Curtis, 32, of Baton Rouge

  • Possession with the intent to distribute marijuana
  • Possession with the intent to distribute heroin
  • Possession with the intent to distribute amphetamine pills
  • possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Convicted felon in possession of a firearm
  • possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
  • Resisting an officer by flight
  • Obstruction of justice

Robert Johnson, 31, Zachary

  • Possession with the intent to distribute marijuana
  • Possession with the intent to distribute heroin
  • Possession with the intent to distribute amphetamine pills
  • possession of drug paraphernalia
  • resisting an officer by flight
  • possession of a firearm in the presence of controlled dangerous substance
  • convicted felon in possession of a firearm

Casey Maurice Galmon, 30, Denham Springs

  • Possession with the intent to distribute marijuana
  • Possession with the intent to distribute heroin
  • Possession with the intent to distribute amphetamine pills
  • possession of drug paraphernalia
  • obstruction of justice
  • battery on a police officer

Guidroz said in a news release that the arrests occurred at the Motel 6 in the 4100 block of I-49 Service Road in Opelousas.

According to a news release, detectives were informed of a planned narcotics transaction to take place at the motel. Detectives set up surveillance supplemented by marked units and SLPSO SWAT members.

“As the identified vehicle arrived with three black males, the marked units moved in. The driver, Robert Johnson, was apprehended in the vehicle with a pistol in his possession. Two other suspects attempted to flee but were surrounded and quickly taken into custody," Guidroz said.

Curtis allegedly fled the vehicle while "brandishing a Glock .45 caliber pistol with an extended magazine," the news release read, but that Curtis tossed the gun on the ground and surrendered to officers.

Galmon is accused of being "combative" with the detective who took him into custody.
