Nonprofit sets up
showers at library
Marin Mobile Care is offering free weekly showers.
The mobile shower units are available on Thursdays in the parking lot at the library, 2097 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. A towel, soap and shampoo are provided.
Information about mental health counseling, medical care, food and temporary shelter, work and transitional housing is available on site.
Marin Mobile Care is operated by the Downtown Streets Team.
NOVATO
Trustees sworn in,
leadership selected
The Novato Unified School District swore in board members and elected its leadership at a meeting Tuesday.
Debbie Butler, Julie Jacobson, and Greg Mack and newly elected member Chandra Alexandre were sworn in by Marin County schools superintendent John Carroll.
Jacobson will serve as president. Magali Limeta will serve as vice president and clerk.
SAN RAFAEL
Fire sparked in
vacant apartment
A small fire caused minor damage at a vacant San Rafael apartment.
Firefighters were notified around 5:50 a.m. Wednesday to the fire at 238 Merrydale Road. There were no injuries and no evacuations.
The one-bedroom apartment was vacant and was undergoing a remodel. Neighbors called 911 when a smoke detector was activated, San Rafael fire Deputy Chief Robert Sinnott said.
The fire was contained to the kitchen. It caused an estimated $5,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Sinnott said.
