US current account deficit hits record high in the third quarter

The US current account deficit surged to a record $310.9 billion in the third quarter, representing 4.2% of GDP. Increased imports, particularly of capital and consumer goods, outweighed a rise in exports. Lower primary income receipts, including direct investment earnings, also contributed to the widening deficit.
