Oh My Dog, They’re Making a Bluey Movie!
It’s been a while since we’ve had a real Bluey announcement. Back in April, the beloved Australian children’s program aired its double-length season-three finale, “The Sign,” followed by a surprise dénouement ep, fittingly titled, “Surprise!” These episodes, released back-to-back, didn’t feel like a normal season finale; they had the vibe of a series finale. Since then, the show has released a bunch of minisodes on Disney+, but there’s been no news about whether or not the show will return in full for a fourth season. Season schmeason, I say. Quit while you’re on top, I say. Bluey is coming to theaters worldwide as an animated feature film in 2027!
The Bluey movie will be written and director by the show’s creator, the elusive Joe Brumm, who said in a statement, “I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in series three, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that. I’ve always thought Bluey deserved a theatrical movie.” He also said, “I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together,” whatever that means.
The Bluevie will be a BBC Studios co-production with Ludo Studio, just like the show, with Disney distributing under its banner. It will stream on Disney+ following its worldwide theatrical release. Hopefully Bluey’s popularity endures until 2027 so this thing can make massive dollarbucks. I can imagine Brumm putting out more minis in the meantime to keep the brand alive. Or maybe a Muffin spinoff? Either way, product designers, you have two years to build a Chattermax popcorn bucket. Good luck.
