Topeka man struck, killed after exiting moving SUV
TOPEKA (KSNT) – Police said a Topeka man fell or jumped from the passenger side of an SUV when he was hit by a teen driver traveling in the next lane over.
The crash happened just after midnight Sunday, Dec. 8 near Southeast 25th Street and Southeast Adams Street in east Topeka.
Topeka Police said Fernando Alvarez, 26 of Topeka, was riding as a passenger when he “exited” a moving SUV traveling south on Southeast Adams Street. A 17-year-old was driving next to the car when she hit Alvarez in the road.
Police said there was no evidence showing Alvarez or either driver was impaired. This comes weeks after a homeless man was hit while walking in the 1900 block of Southeast Adams Street without a crosswalk, and later died as a result of his injuries.
