MLB Rumors: What It Could Cost Red Sox To Sign Teoscar Hernández

The Red Sox missed out on Juan Soto, but an All-Star power-hitting outfielder still remains on the open market.

Teoscar Hernández surprisingly wasn’t quick to sign after Soto landed his record-breaking deal with the New York Mets. There’s been no shortage of speculation about the 2024 World Series champion, who clearly is waiting for a certain kind of offer to come across the table as he remains patient with his free agency.

What might that offer look like? MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand provided insight in a column published Monday.

“The Dodgers and Hernández seemed headed for a reunion, but the two sides haven’t been able to reach a deal thus far,” Feinsand wrote. “That opened the door for other teams — namely the Red Sox and Blue Jays — to jump in on the outfielder, who is seeking a three-year deal in the $22-24 million a year range, per sources.”

Hernández turned 32 in October, so a three-year deal wouldn’t be reckless for the two-time All-Star. But for Boston and other interested clubs, it will need to decide if the reported price tag is worth the money when other needs still require attention.

Don’t be surprised if the Red Sox give it serious consideration, though, as Hernández’s career numbers at Fenway Park are fantastic.
