James Leow’s bid to secure his Asian Tour card started with an opening one-under-par 70 in the first round in the Final Stage of the Qualifying School.

The SGA professional marked his card at the Lake View Resort and Golf Club in Thailand with four birdies and three bogeys to end day one in a share of 64th place that also includes Koh Dengshan.

Gregory Foo shot a 71 while Nicklaus Chiam, Ryan Ang and Justin Han returned with a 72, 73 and 80 respectively.

The six Singaporeans are among the 208 players battling to finish inside the top 35 in the five-round qualifying test.

A cut will be made after the first two rounds with the leading 140 and ties making it through before a second cut is made after the fourth round. The top 70 and ties survive that cut.

The top 35, and no ties, will earn their cards on the fifth and final day.

If there is a tie for first place and 35th position then they will be decided by sudden-death play-offs.

Over at the Final Qualifier of Lalla Aicha Q-School for the Ladies European Tour in Morocco, Aloysa Atienza signed for an opening 74 for a tied-92nd place.

Atienza is the final field which features 154 players from 39 nations battling for their respective playing status on the LET.

Meanwhile, Chen Xingtong finished in ninth place at the Malaysian ppppAmateur Open while Troy Storm secured 12th place with Justin Kuk ending his week at the Sabah Golf and Country Club in 16th place.
