Luigi Mangione’s New Lawyer Is Married to Diddy’s Attorney

Luigi Mangione, who is facing a murder charge in New York in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, now has a surprising connection to Sean “Diddy” Combs: Their respective attorneys are married.

Mangione, 26, has retained the services of high-powered attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo, NPR has reported. She’s a former prosecutor with a deep knowledge of the New York criminal-justice system: Friedman Agnifilo spent seven years as the chief assistant district attorney in the Manhattan district attorney’s office, working under Cyrus Vance Jr. She moved into private practice in 2021, and her firm, Agnifilo Intrater, specializes in “complex and sensitive criminal matters,” according to its website. During her nearly three decades as a prosecutor, according to her biography, Friedman Agnifilo focused on violent-crime cases, including cold-case homicides and cases “involving a mental-health component.” As Vance’s second-in-command, she served as acting district attorney whenever he was out of the jurisdiction.

“She’s got as much experience as any human being, especially in the state court,” a New York prosecutor told CNN. “She knows every corridor, every judge, every clerk in the courthouse.”

Friedman Agnifilo also happens to be married to Marc Agnifilo, a fellow former prosecutor who is currently representing Combs as he faces federal sex-trafficking and racketeering charges. Marc Agnifilo worked as chief of the violent-crimes unit at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey and as Manhattan assistant district attorney before joining a private practice in 2006. He co-founded Agnifilo Intrater earlier this year and has also represented convicted “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli as well as NXIVM cult leader Keith Raniere, who was convicted in 2019 of charges including racketeering, sex trafficking, and child pornography. He also served as part of Harvey Weinstein’s legal team, which forced Friedman Agnifilo to recuse herself from prosecuting the disgraced film producer for rape in 2017.

Mangione is set to appear before a Pennsylvania court on December 23 in connection with charges regarding the false identification documents and 3-D gun police say they found on him when he was arrested. He has yet to be extradited to New York. Meanwhile, Combs is set to stand trial next May.
